  • Conformity is Just Another Form of Mediocrity

Let's begin with Old Man Pie. I found this particular song very moving.

Now, on to other things. The quote in my title comes from one of the operators at the plant. He told me this quote in the form of a complaint about work, which I found interesting since it was a lot more elegant than the usual complaint of "man, work sucks" that I usually hear. Well, of course it sucks. It's work. Now, give me a reason why it sucks and now we're cookin' with gas!

Your coworker is an educated person and makes a good point. The reason you are looking for is the law of diminishing returns. The first paycheck was fabulous, but by the time you get to check #8353 it has lost some luster. I once was told that no one should stay in the same job for more than 7 yrs. After 7 you stagnate, creativity drops, enthusiasm wanes, you burn out and burn up. Perhaps it is true for some people and/or for some jobs. As for me, going on 19 yrs and learning something new all the time.

    Wise, wise words.

RYC: Honestly, I just don't give them any attention; other than pithy pulses.

@murisopsis - I would posit that, that only happens with bad jobs :D
